
Shallow Water American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification

The Lifeguarding course provides participants the knowledge and skills to prevent recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies in shallow water (less than 7 feet) and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. This class is taught in a blended learning format and the assigned online portion(s) (accessed via mobile desktop or tablet) must be completed prior to each instructor-led session. Participants who successfully complete this course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Shallow Water Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid valid for 2 years.

Prerequisites
- Ability to swim 100 yards continuously
- Tread water for 2 minutes using only your legs
- Complete a timed event within 50 seconds by starting in the water, swimming 20 yards, submergr to a depth of 4-5 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object and return to the surface by walking or swimming on the back to the starting point with both hands holding the object and exiting the water without using steps or a ladder.
